The Train of Life

Today was a peaceful day because nothing happened at the office. No urgent cases, no issues, no people yelling—just everyone happily working like productive little elves. I just hope the rest of the week stays this way until the weekend… but let’s be real, that’s probably wishful thinking.

I went shopping for dinner today, so my budget took a little hit. But guess what? I bought three dragon fruits for the first time in Singapore because they were cheap! Three of them for only 2.95 SGD—what a steal! I also spent 3.95 SGD on four pears, because, you know, balance. So, here’s my spending breakdown for the day:

  • Lunch: 2.50 SGD
  • Dinner: 6.90 SGD
  • Spending way too much emotional energy calculating my grocery budget: Priceless.

I contacted my ex-manager today to ask if I could use him as a reference on my resume. He said yes! Not only that, but he even asked about my work and life here in Singapore. Honestly, he’s such a great leader and an amazing person. Someone should really learn from him... (hinting aggressively at my current manager).

I also reached out to my ex-HR recruiter—the very person who recruited me into my first company. I needed a certificate of employment for my master’s application, which will open in August. I know it’s still early, but I’d rather be prepared than scramble at the last minute like a headless chicken. She got it for me in less than half an hour. Absolute legend.

I’m really grateful that my old company is still so good to me even after I left. It’s truly a great place for people to stay long-term. The people there were genuinely nice and friendly—more like friends than colleagues. And most importantly, we had each other’s backs. No backstabbing, no leaving anyone behind—just good vibes and teamwork.

Honestly, I kind of miss that.

But life always moves on, and the people we meet are just passengers on the train, traveling with us for a certain period before we each reach our own destinations. I recently came across a quote that really resonates with me:

No matter how many people come and go, the train will always reach its destination.

It’s just like life—no matter what others say or do, we just have to keep moving forward. Everyone has their own destination, and we don’t have to follow someone else’s path just because it worked for them. There are infinite ways to reach where we’re meant to be.

And maybe life is just one big experiment—testing different routes, figuring out what works, and sometimes getting a little lost along the way. But as long as we keep going, we’ll get there. 🚂✨
