50-Year Playlist

Okay, guys, hear me out! I just got the groundbreaking news that my company has this super special practice: we get to leave work earlier on Christmas Eve! Drumroll, please... We’ll be released at 3:30 PM—a whole two hours earlier than usual! I know, I know, try to contain your jealousy. And guess what? This isn’t just a one-time deal—it’s happening on New Year’s Eve too!

Now, before you imagine me sprinting out of the office like a kid on the last day of school, let me burst that bubble. I’m not exactly going out to paint the town red or party like it’s 1999. Nope, I’ll just be basking in those extra two hours of me-time before the public holiday is over and life resumes its regular programming. Still, I am unreasonably excited for tomorrow, especially for that magical 3:30 PM moment.

Anyway, on a totally unrelated note—has anyone ever heard of a singer called James 杨永聪? Ten years ago, I stumbled upon him while listening to his cover of Long Time No See (好久不见), originally by Eason Chan. And I’ll be honest—don’t cancel me, Eason fans—but I think James absolutely nailed it, and then some. Not many people can pull off Eason’s songs better than him, but James? Oh, he made it sound like the song was custom-made for his rusty, soulful voice. It’s like he’s not just singing; he’s narrating a whole drama through the lyrics. If you haven’t heard it, go give it a listen. You’ll thank me later. It’s been 10 years, and I’m still listening to him. At this point, I might as well commit to another 50 years.
