Back to School?
Pardon my tardiness for 13/12/2024—technically, it’s already past midnight, so yeah, hello 14th! Yesterday was my company’s dinner and dance, and I just rolled back home from the Sands Expo & Convention Centre after what felt like an eternity on the road.
The theme? Back to School. And yup, you guessed it—everyone was strutting around in uniforms, including yours truly. Now, let me be real with you: I was dying inside. Walking around in a school uniform as a grown adult is not exactly my comfort zone. Meanwhile, other people? Absolute legends. They rocked their uniforms like it was a fashion show, while I spent the whole night questioning my life choices. Confidence level: somewhere between “hiding behind a plant” and “pretending to tie my shoes.” I just can’t pull it off... nope, not me at all.
And of course, no D&D is complete without the classic lucky draw session. Now, here’s something I’ve discovered after attending two dinners from two different companies: there’s a pattern. Every single time someone sits beside me, they always win something.
Case in point: at my previous company, my colleague CC sat next to me and—boom—she walked away with not one, but two round-trip tickets to Phuket. Fast forward to tonight, and my supervisor LS, who happened to sit beside me, snagged the fifth prize—a freaking iPhone 16 Pro. An iPhone. Sixteen. Pro. Meanwhile, what do I get? Just the “honor” of being everyone’s lucky charm (cue internal crying T^T).
So next time, if you’re desperate to win a giveaway, just find me and glue yourself to my side. I may not get the prizes, but apparently, my luck aura is strong enough to bless others. Sharing is caring, you're very much welcomed.
But overall, I had a great time—mainly because of the food. Honestly, I haven’t had much good food lately, so I went all in. I even indulged in some forbidden fruit... or rather, forbidden seafood like prawns and tiny octopuses. Why forbidden? Oh, just a small detail—I’m kinda allergic to them. But come on, they looked so good, I couldn’t resist! YOLO.
The one thing I did manage to avoid was beer and wine, which I’m also allergic to. Been there, done that, and let me tell you, the aftermath isn’t cute. Last time, the skin on my back started peeling like I was auditioning for the role of a snake shedding its skin. So yeah, I decided to skip the booze and stick to my allergic seafood buffet instead.
Oh, and one small thing totally made my day—the doorgift! Before entering the ballroom, there were a few little activities you could do to win prizes. Naturally, I had my eye on this super cute teddy bear. To win it, you had to complete the electric shock touch maze challenge. Sounds simple, right? Well, on my first try, I barely made it halfway before the maze zapped me out of my dreams.
Determined to try again, I stepped aside to strategize, but then my colleague, P, decided to give it a go. Let me tell you, the guy’s hand was rock solid—zero shaking, total pro vibes. Not only did he become the first person to conquer the entire maze, but he also won the teddy bear! I thought, “Well, there goes my chance...” But to my surprise, P turned around and gave it to me!
Big thanks to P—you’re the real MVP. May your tools always run smoothly and never, ever break down. And may your steady hand win you even more prizes in the future!
