Burns and MCs

Today hasn’t been my best day in Singapore (though to be fair, I haven’t had a "best" day here yet 😅). Normally, I grab economic rice from my company cafeteria and take it to go—I’m not a fan of eating in a crowded space. They usually pack my food in a polystyrene container, and I grab a plastic spoon and fork from the tray.

Lately, they’ve moved the cutlery tray to a different spot, a little further to the left, which means I have to lean forward slightly to reach it. No big deal, right? Well, today, while reaching for the spoon and fork, my left arm accidentally brushed against a stainless steel tube on the drink vending machine. To my surprise (and horror!), it turns out the tube was filled with hot steam!

I was so shocked that I didn’t even shout—it just felt really hot at the moment. At first, I thought I was fine, but as time passed, I started feeling this slow, burning sensation, like a thousand tiny needles poking the same spot on my arm.

After lunch, I told my supervisor about what happened (yes, I still ate my lunch because I was way too hungry to skip it). They suggested I visit the nearest clinic at the MRT, so off I went. The doctor gave me a tetanus injection, and later, I Googled it—turns out there are side effects like feeling cold and achy. Surprise, surprise—that's exactly how I'm feeling right now!

On the bright side, the doctor gave me an MC for the rest of the week, from tomorrow until Friday. Finally, some time to rest at home, right? Or so I thought...

Apparently, since I’m still under probation, I can’t take any MC yet. Wait, what?! So basically, if you start working at a new company, you’re not allowed to be sick for the first three months? How does that even make sense? It feels so unfair and ridiculous! And that, my friends, is the sad and sorrowful tale of my day. Tomorrow, I’ll still have to work with my arm all wrapped up like a burrito. How convenient is that, right? But hey, at least it’ll make for an interesting conversation starter. “Oh, this? Just a little run-in with a rogue vending machine. No big deal!”

I am sad...

Sometimes you just have to laugh it off. Here’s hoping for a brighter, burn-free tomorrow! :'D

P.S. Anyone else here totally obsessed with those sweets called Hacks? Because I can’t stop eating them! They’re basically my ultimate guilty pleasure—one leads to another, and before I know it, the whole pack is gone.
