A Semi-Productive Saturday (Miri, we are coming!)
Another productive day… well, semi-productive, because today didn’t quite live up to yesterday’s legendary standards. Why? Because I accidentally slept until almost 10AM. Yep. Double digits. My bad.
I then wandered aimlessly around the house like a ghost who lost her purpose, until I stumbled upon the breakfast my mum kindly bought back from Kenyalang market. It was fried kuey tiaw—my go-to meal when my brain malfunctions at the "what to eat?" question. Shout-out to kuey tiaw for being there for me through thick and thin (noodles).
Suddenly, like a bolt of poorly timed memory, I remembered I had sent three pairs of jeans to a very vintage sewing shop at 7th Mile for resizing. The auntie there had said I could collect them on Saturday—and guess what? It’s Saturday. (Time really flew while I was snoozing.)
So I was about to head out solo when my mum decided she wanted to tag along to visit the pharmacy for allergy meds. A wholesome mother-daughter errand combo! We rolled out, picked up the jeans (which now fit like they were made by fairy godmothers), and guess what? Auntie only charged me RM30 for three pairs! I nearly adopted her on the spot.
Mission accomplished, we returned home. But just when I was planning to vegetate gloriously, a wild urge to clean attacked me. Specifically, our poor, overstuffed reading room that’s been hoarding junk like it’s preparing for the apocalypse.
I started with my mum’s bookshelf and, no exaggeration, unearthed enough old books to start a museum. I spent two hours tearing them apart (sorry, trees!) because we’re recycling them. Fun twist? They have to be sorted into colour and black-and-white pages. Like... why? Who decided that? Either way, it felt like I was doing a group project—with myself—and I was the only member.
By the end, my back pain made a dramatic return, accompanied by dizziness from standing up too fast. Pretty sure my body is just a bundle of "pls help me" signals now. But it’s fine. I will train it back to glory. Slowly. Probably. Eventually.
Anyway, tomorrow marks the start of our much-anticipated road trip to Miri! According to my over-ambitious plan, we’re leaving at 5AM (translation: we’ll wake up in the middle of the night and pretend it’s fine). I am not bringing my 2.7kg laptop with me because I’m not trying to carry a dumbbell on vacation. This means I won’t be updating my blog until I’m back on June 4th.
So please wait patiently for my return! I promise to come back with stories, chaos, and probably more back pain. Wish us a safe and drama-free road trip!
