新年快乐

Ladies and gentlemen, the moment we've all been waiting for! Tomorrow marks my last working day before Chinese New Year, and I couldn’t be happier. I’ll head to JB tomorrow and catch a flight home on Tuesday—perfect timing for Chinese New Year’s Eve. Let’s be real: my productivity has hit rock bottom. How am I supposed to focus on work when I can almost taste the holiday freedom? It’s like trying to read a book while a plate of fried chicken sits next to you. Impossible.

Speaking of food, I had lunch with my brother today. This guy, by the way, has zero plans of going home for Chinese New Year. So, our lunch was basically our pre-New-Year’s-Eve dinner, except, you know, it was lunch. We went to A&W, which I’ve concluded must be his second home. I mean, if I had to count his visits there, I’d need more than two hands. As for me, I couldn’t even remember if I’d been to A&W before. There’s this fuzzy memory of eating it as a first-year university student at Paradigm Mall in JB, but the details are so blurry that it feels like a dream sequence in a bad movie.

Honestly, my memory in general is... questionable. Anything that happened before primary school? Just flashes of people and places. Secondary school? Don’t even bother—30% retention rate at best. And recently, I’ve started forgetting old classmates’ names and faces! Am I getting old, or is my brain just Marie Kondo-ing memories that don’t spark joy?

Anyway, back to lunch: I got a set with two pieces of fried chicken, curly fries, and the iconic root beer float. The chicken? Chef’s kiss, especially the crispy skin—it was like eating a deliciously seasoned blanket of happiness. The root beer float was perfect too, not overly sweet, with ice cream that hit just the right spot. Oh, and here’s a philosophical question for you: why do curly fries taste so much better than straight fries? Is it the shape? The seasoning? Or am I just overthinking fried potatoes? Also, is “straight fries” even the right term? Feels like they’re due for a rebrand.

For dinner, I went for a Chicken Quesadilla Set Meal from Stuff’d, with nacho chips, because why not? The quesadilla was surprisingly delicious—I wasn’t expecting much after my traumatizing salmon salad experience from last time, but this really redeemed the brand for me. Sometimes, life gives you bad salads so you can truly appreciate a good quesadilla.

By the way, this might just be the last blog post before Chinese New Year. Why? Because my personal laptop will be taking an extended vacation in my rented room while I head home. That means no laptop action until I’m back here on the 4th of February. Sure, I could continue writing on my phone, but let’s be honest—it’s just not the same. Typing on a laptop is like dancing on a proper stage, while typing on a phone feels like trying to moonwalk in a closet.

So, whether or not I update depends entirely on my mood (and how much free time I get between eating my weight in festive goodies). That said, this might really be a goodbye until I’m back.

Wishing all of y'all a fantastic Chinese New Year! 新年快乐! 恭喜发财! May your year be filled with happiness, prosperity, and good health. See you after the break!
