Sunday Shenanigans

Sunday: The Emotional Roller Coaster Edition 🎢

Sunday always feels like an emotional roller coaster—one moment, it’s "Yay, it’s Sunday!", and the next, it’s "Oh… it’s Sunday." The existential dread kicks in real quick.

Anyway, today I dragged myself out before noon (a rare achievement) to meet my brother at Woodlands because we had big plans—stuffing our faces at Captain Kim Korean BBQ & Hotpot Buffet in Junction 10. Classy, right? They had this “Like and Share” promo where you just tap a few buttons on Facebook or Instagram, and boom—discount secured. Honestly, this is the kind of modern-day foraging I excel at.

Since it was a weekend lunch, we paid SGD 11.90 per person (excluding GST and service charge, because life loves hidden fees). I assume dinner has more food options, but I avoid going out at night like a vampire with a bedtime, so lunch it was. The place is halal, so no pork—meaning no iconic Korean BBQ pork belly. And let’s be real, that’s like having a K-drama without a dramatic rain scene. But hey, still good food.

Note to self: Always hunt for these discounts. This is next-level adulting.

Now, here’s where things got interesting. On our way back, we decided to randomly hop on a bus—one that wasn’t even on CityMapper’s suggested routes. Wild, I know. (By the way, if you’re navigating Singapore without CityMapper, you’re basically raw-dogging public transport. It tells you the fastest and cheapest way to get anywhere. Google Maps is great too if you want something basic, but CityMapper is the real MVP.)

So, we sat on this mysterious bus and just rode it till the last stop—which, by some miracle, actually turned out to be where we wanted to go: Boon Lay Interchange. It took the scenic route, aka the unnecessarily long way, but honestly? 10/10, would do again. Sitting by the window, watching unfamiliar streets roll by, seeing parts of Singapore I’d never even noticed before—it was kinda refreshing. It also hit me that I’ve been living here, yet I only ever move between “home” and “office” five days a week. So many MRT stations I’ve never even set foot in.

Moral of the story? Hop on a random bus. Get lost. See new things. This might just be my new hobby.
